A Quick Introduction to Vacuum Casting
There are many ways to build a prototype these days, but not all of them may be economical for you. If you need production-like parts for low volume production or prototyping with a low upfront investment, you might want to consider vacuum casting in China. The process is also known as urethane casting, and it will deliver production-quality parts without the usual lead times and costs associated with production tooling. With the right service provider, any part regardless of size can be created. That also makes the process versatile for creating many different types of products, from car bumpers to headphones.
Know how it works
Reputable rapid
prototyping and manufacturing specialists offer a wide range of materials that
can be used for vacuum casting in China. No matter your project, urethane
casting follows three stages:
Stage 1: Master
model – This is either SLA or SLS 3D printed or CNC machined
Stage 2: Silicone
tool – At this stage, liquid silicone is poured around a master model and left
for curing. Once it is dry, the master is taken from the mould, leaving a
cavity.
Stage 3: Casting –
Resin is poured into the cavity, and the production-like replica is made.
Benefits of vacuum
casting
This technique will
produce self-coloured parts and rubber-like parts for low volume prototyping
and manufacturing requirements. You will get production-like parts, which can
be practical when understanding how your product works or functions during the
prototype stage. Vacuum casting
in China makes it possible to recreate tens of parts quickly for in-house
testing, as well as for market.
High precision
results
Silicone ensures
that the end product is highly detailed and exact to your specifications. Thus,
the final product is similar to the original one, which means you get
high-quality results. Moreover, the use of resin gives you freedom to pick the
best material for use in making the final product. This way, you have more
options in terms of hardness, rigidity, and flexibility!
